The 4 types of deception

The 4 types of deception are:
  • Falsification
  • Exaggeration
  • Omission
  • Equivocation
Falsification-Passing off false or fabricated statements as though they were true
Exaggeration-Inflating or overstating information that is true in principle
Omission- Leaving out consiquential pieces of information in one's story
Equivocation- Giving vague or ambiguous information to create a false impression

An example of falsification is: All swans are white
An example of exaggeration is: Country music is the best music in the whole wide world.
An example of omission is: Forgetting to tell your husband how much something cost.
Equivocation: Telling the person you like that Blue is your favorite color, even though it isn't.

  1. Your example of equivocation is faulty...
A more proper example is this scenario:

Person A: Did you eat the last cupcake?
    Person B: I'm on a diet; I can't even eat sweets!

Person B failed to answer the question directly, they only "threw in" some information to distract Person A
